Badminton String Guide: EXBOLT 65 vs BG80 vs BG65 vs AEROBITE

Choosing a badminton string is less about finding one string that is “best” and more about matching the string to the response, durability and control you want from your racquet. This JJ Sport guide compares four popular Yonex options using Yonex’s published specifications.

Quick comparison

EXBOLT 65 — 0.65 mm. Yonex places EXBOLT 65 in its quick-repulsion range. Its FORGED FIBER construction and Elasticity Outer are designed to combine quick response with durability and control. Shop EXBOLT 65.

BG80 — 0.68 mm. A quick-repulsion string using VECTRAN™ and a braided oval outer construction. It is a popular option for players who want a more direct, firm response. Shop BG80.

BG65 — 0.70 mm. Yonex categorizes BG65 as a durability string. The thicker gauge makes it a practical choice when string life and consistency are higher priorities. Shop BG65.

AEROBITE — hybrid 0.67 mm mains / 0.61 mm crosses. Yonex describes AEROBITE as a hybrid combination for quick repulsion and spin, using different gauges for the mains and crosses. Shop AEROBITE.

Which one should you choose?

If you want quick shuttle response, EXBOLT 65 is an excellent place to start. If you prefer a firmer, more direct stringbed, consider BG80. If durability is the main priority, BG65 is the straightforward option. If you want to try a hybrid setup designed around repulsion and spin, consider AEROBITE.

What tension should you use?

String choice is only part of the setup. Tension should be selected based on the racquet’s manufacturer-rated range, your playing level, preferred feel and previous setup. Higher tension is not automatically better. Always stay within the racquet manufacturer’s recommended tension range.

If you are not sure what to choose, bring your racquet to JJ Sport in Markham. We can look at your racquet, current setup and playing preferences and help you choose an appropriate string and tension.
